How to play the Junglee Rummy game

The objective

Every player is dealt 13 cards from a shuffled deck. Across two rounds of drawing and discarding, you arrange your cards into valid melds — sequences and sets. The first player who finishes every card and declares wins the pot.

Sequences and sets

• Pure sequence — three cards of the same suit in ascending order, such as 4♠ 5♠ 6♠. A joker can complete a sequence, but it cannot be the only card in a pure sequence.
• Impure sequence — three cards of the same suit in order, with a joker standing in for a missing card.
• Set — three or four cards of the same rank, such as 7♠ 7♥ 7♦, with or without a joker.

How a round works

1. Two players draw one card from the open pile while everyone else discards one card.
2. The round repeats until only one card remains in each hand.
3. A player with one card left may declare — but a valid declaration requires at least one pure sequence.

Points calculation

Players who do not declare pay one point for every card left in their hand. The collected points go to the winner, and in a points game the multipliers (2x, 3x and beyond) decide the final value of the pot.

Beginner tips for rummy

• Always complete a pure sequence first — it is the most valuable group in the hand.
• Protect your jokers; a single joker in the right place can convert a losing hand into a winning one.
• Track discards. If nobody picks up a card for two rounds, it is likely useful to somebody.
• Discard from the group you can most easily finish, not from a random pile of cards.
